So the term gap year is thrown around a lot in the media lately. And we generally associate this term with high school leavers. They’re encouraged to take a year off to do whatever the heck they want before strapping themselves in to the big bad grown up world of university.
But what about us?
What about we who have done our time slaving away at uni and thrown ourselves heart first into the workforce with gusto?
Surely we deserve a little reward for working our butts off?
We may be busy laying down foundations for our future but don’t assume we haven’t had our heads up in the clouds dreaming of travel and globe trotting adventures.

Well let me tell you something! When you get bitten by the quarter life crisis travel bug… You must give into it. The travel bug is not to be ignored. (And I may just have the perfect remedy… read on). It’s telling you it’s time to be a rebel again, to wear lipstick and play in the mud and dream of a world rich with wanderlust beyond the daily work grind.
Why take a quarter life crisis break?
Well let’s just have a look at what’s potentially around the corner…
Marriage, work, mortgage, work, babies, work, family and more work.
Now I’m not saying any of these things are bad. And they’re certainly not the rule of thumb. But what I’m suggesting is a shake up! A call to action to throw caution to the wind and invite some spontaneity back into our oh-so-sensible lives!
I took 6 months off last year to explore the world. I called it my pre grown up gap year. It was my chance to be a fanciful nomad, meet strangers in foreign cities, fall in love, and inhale cultures that awoke my spirit. It was magic.
And while we are part of the generation of taking 10,000 steps every day to satisfy our Fitbit, why not take those steps along the Great Wall of China, the Inca trail of Peru or the sands of Thailand’s beaches?
Sounds pretty amaze-balls right?! Well guess what, you can take your next step with G Adventures right here right now!

Hi Gemma,
I’ve tried to follow the link but it doesn’t seem to be working… Could you repost it? I am absolutely the person you’ve written about – I never had the money to travel pre- or even post-uni and now, with a husband and small baby, am desperate to take a few months out and take my little family on an amazing adventure before the little one starts school. This would be an AMAZING prize!
I’m loving reading your blog posts so keep ’em coming ☺️

This is amazing, I’ve had the travel bug in the last year. In my early 20’s I was too sick to travel then I decided to go to university from 25-29 now for my 30th next year I’ve decided its time for adventure if not now when? there’s a whole world to see, people to meet and I cant wait so I will be entering 🙂 xx
